Funding worth US$ 6 million has been raised by Indonesia based company, SweetEscape in Series A funding. The funding round was co led by Openspace Ventures and Jungle Ventures. Joining the funding round was Burda Principal Investments. GDP Venture, Skystar Capital, East Ventures and Beenext were the previous investors.

The AI- powered photography platform was founded by David Soong and Emile Etienne, a serial entrepreneur in the year 2017. Initially, the company started as a platform that connected travelers with over 10,000 photographers across 500 cities.

What started as a way to address the problem in the travel photography segment is observing a broader usage of the platform, beyond travel; as explained by Etienne. He said that the growth in non-travel (birthdays, baby showers, graduations, family photoshoots and others) have consistently exceeded their expectations. Strengthening foothold in Asia, while building presence in new markets around the world is going to be the focus with this new funding and the investors’ support.

Earlier, Axioo a photography and videography company specializing in wedding, engagement, and family portraits was founded by Soong.  Bridestory, a wedding marketplace that was recently acquired by Tokopedia was co-founded by Etienne.

With 20 years of photography experience to his credit, Soong said that 70% of a photographer’s time is spent in not taking photos. The objective of their company is to handle 80% of the photographer’s workflow and post production, in turn ensuring increased productivity and income for the photographers.

The company’s app provides the users the option to download their services such as one- click photo session booking and photos from a session all in 48 hours.

SweetEscape is headquartered in Jakarta and is the leading AI imaging technology in the region, spread across three different cities that include Jakarta, Singapore and Manila. The startup has over 100 employees from these areas.

Its AI capability will be further developed with the freshly raised capital.
