At this point many YouTube users are not clear about when the video streaming service can terminate an account. The confusion was induced by the YouTube’s own explanation, which was through a rather curious manner. The objective was to inform that if advertisers are ditched by the user’s video, that user’s account can be deleted by the Google- owned video sharing platform.
Starting December 10th, YouTube’s “Terms and Conditions” will read verbatim “YouTube may terminate your access or your Google account’s access to all or part of the Service if YouTube believes, in its sole discretion, that provision of the Service to you is no longer commercially viable”.
The vloggers concerns stem from the wordings “no longer commercially viable”, which has got them worried that if mainstream advertisers do not like niche video channels, the latter will be shut down by the video sharing service.
It might give a scary message when one reads something especially in fine print, however; as per YouTube not much has changed in reality. In an email, Ivy Choi, a YouTube spokeswoman cleared that the service is not changing how their products work, or how they collect and process data. She went further in explaining that creators’ right over their work or right ear money by it is also not changing.
The existing terms of service state that an account can be terminated if the user breaks rules of YouTube, and the much discussed wordings have been used to ensure that the users are aware of the above.
Additionally, a notification will be sent to the user whose account YouTube plans to take down or ban. This will affect their ability to upload videos on YouTube and comment on content posted on YouTube, however; they will still be allowed to view content on YouTube. Furthermore, a user can appeal to the service if he or she believes their account has been terminated wrongfully.
